Ndisa Chabwera

Production Manager
Tribal Textiles
When did you join Tribal Textiles and why did you pick Tribal Textiles?
I first joined in 2017, left for a bit (thought I’d try something new), and now I’m back because, apparently, I can’t stay away!
Honestly, it’s the people, the creativity, and the fact that this place has actual heart. It’s not just churning out pretty things. It’s making a real impact, and I love that.
How would you describe Tribal Textiles?
Chaotic, colourful, and completely unpredictable, in the best way. One day, you’re painting a new collection, the next, you’re rushing to pack a huge order or figuring out how to ship to some remote corner of the world. It keeps you on your toes, but I’d be bored stiff doing anything else.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
It actually means something. I’m not just pushing paper or selling things no one needs. We’re creating jobs, keeping traditional skills alive, and making gorgeous textiles that people love. Seeing the direct impact on our artisans, the community, and even customers is huge.

Reflections
positive working
Tell us about a colleague, past or present, who was inspiring to you.
Oh, hands down, my French ladies, Celine and Raph. They were absolute powerhouses, taught me everything from work ethic to life lessons (and possibly a few bad habits along the way). They could handle any crisis with the perfect balance of efficiency and mild panic. But honestly, the whole team here is great, everyone brings something different to the table, which is why we somehow make it all work.

Boho
Ndisa's Favourite Collection
Do you have a favourite collection, design, or product?
Definitely Boho! It’s got that effortlessly cool, slightly “I live in a Pinterest board” vibe. Earthy tones, detailed patterns, and just the right mix of relaxed and stylish. If I could, I’d redecorate my entire house with it.

Memories
HAPPY CHAOS
Tell me about a memorable moment working at Tribal Textiles.
Two come to mind. First, when we got our first huge international order for Home Goods, cue happy chaos, a bit of stress, and a lot of celebratory snacks. The second...We made a gift for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. No big deal, just a casual moment of royalty owning our work!

Jennifer Jarvis
I had just two weeks with Ndisa when we met in 2019, but she made a lasting impact. She’s one of those rare people you instantly click with, full of energy, humour, and heart. It’s no surprise she’s back. We’re lucky to have her!
