We have been supporting Chipembele, a local wildlife education trust since 2015 by donating a portion of proceeds from our glass recycling project
The Vital Work of Chipembele
Founded in 1998, Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust inspires the next generation of conservationists across communities bordering South Luangwa National Park.
Through school conservation clubs, educational field trips, camping experiences and hands-on learning, they help children develop a lifelong passion for protecting Zambia's wildlife.
Their support continues beyond the classroom with conservation leadership programmes, internships and student sponsorships, helping young Zambians build careers in conservation.
Today, many former participants are working as wildlife researchers, safari guides, conservation managers and environmental educators across the country.
We Provide Two Week Placements
Every year we welcome students for two-week work placements across different areas of Tribal Textiles, giving them the opportunity to gain practical experience in a creative working environment.
We're proud that these placements often become much more than a short visit.
Josephine first joined us on placement in our recycled glass workshop and is now part of the team, helping Mwamba run the workshop. Matthews began with a placement in our shop and has since become a full-time Sales Assistant. Triumph (Toco) also started as a placement student and, although now studying at university, continues to return during holidays to work with us as a Shop Assistant.
Supporting young people as they take their first steps into the workplace is something we value enormously, and we love seeing them grow into lasting members of the Tribal family.
Glass Recycling for our Environment & Chipembele
Every piece from our recycled glass workshop gives back. We collect discarded glass bottles from local lodges and transform them by hand into everything from tumblers and platters to statement chandeliers.
A portion of the proceeds from every glass item sold is donated to Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust, supporting their conservation education work with young people and communities here in the Luangwa Valley.
So each piece helps tackle local waste while raising funds to protect the environment around us.
